Join us for an exciting summer of musical theater!
From July 10-23, 2023 students entering grades 3-12 can have a musical experience that just might be the highlight of the summer. The Musical Theater Summer Camp at The Music Room in North Billerica is presenting Cinderella’s Glass Slipper! Over the course of two weeks students will work on their acting, dancing, and singing culminating in a fully staged production of this classic fairytale.
About the Show
Cinderella’s Glass Slipper is a retelling of the classic fairytale that we all know and love. In this version of the story with original songs by Bill Francoeur the audience experiences the iconic story of Cinderella finding her happily ever after with the prince. On the way there we meet playful new characters created for this adaptation, including a brave mouse, a hesitant cat, and Pumpkinhead. No matter how familiar the campers and audience are with the original story we guarantee there will be surprises to delight and entertain!
What to Expect
Preparing for Musical Theater Summer Camp
On the first day of camp, all participants will take part in a supportive and inclusive audition process after which roles in the show will be assigned. Campers should come ready to sing the song of their choice. For anybody who is nervous and might be new to auditioning the director and music director will help coach them through the process. Afterward, we’ll talk about the show with the campers, discuss the narrative and themes, and make sure we are setting everybody up for a successful performance in whatever role they are assigned.
On the second day of camp, we will do a table read of the show during which time the campers will start to familiarize themselves with the show and how they fit into it with the help of our director, Amanda Testa-Oerth. In the afternoon we will have our first music rehearsal with our music director, Jayce Mulligan.
From there the campers will dig into the material with staging rehearsal, character and scene study, choreography rehearsals, and music rehearsals. Before they know it we’ll be at our tech rehearsals and getting ready to perform the show. This process will help the campers build skills that will help them stand out in any future musicals or performances that they participate in.
