Responsibilities

Are you ready to embark on a delectable journey into the world of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory? We are seeking a talented and imaginative Set Designer to bring magic to our upcoming production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". This is your golden ticket to showcase your creative prowess and contribute to an enchanting theatrical experience!

  • Conceptualization: Collaborate closely with the Director to craft a whimsical concept for the production. Your vision will set the stage for the magical world of Willy Wonka.

  • Communication: Liaise effectively with props masters and lighting technicians to ensure seamless integration of your set designs with other elements of the production.

  • Creative Vision: Infuse each set, from the smallest detail to grand landscapes, with your boundless creativity and flair.

  • Material Knowledge: Possess a deep understanding of set materials, utilizing them ingeniously to bring your designs to fruition.

  • Problem Solving: Tackle challenges such as lighting dynamics and scene transitions with ingenuity and resourcefulness, ensuring a flawless production.

  • Research: Dive into historical, contemporary, and futuristic sources to infuse authenticity and innovation into your designs, capturing the essence of Roald Dahl's timeless tale.

  • Budget Management: Create captivating designs within the constraints of the available budget ($600-$800), maximizing impact while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

  • Storyboarding: Sketch your design concepts to craft a compelling storyboard, guiding the visual narrative of the production with clarity and imagination.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in set design for theatrical productions, with a portfolio showcasing your creative achievements.

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, able to translate concepts into captivating visual experiences.

  • Proficiency in design software and tools, coupled with hands-on experience in model construction and photography.

  • Strong leadership abilities, with a knack for inspiring and motivating team members to achieve excellence.

  • A keen eye for detail, coupled with a passion for storytelling and world-building.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate the dynamic demands of live theater production.

  • Bachelor's degree in Theater Design, Fine Arts, or a related field (preferred but not required).

COVID-19 considerations:

We have transitioned to a mask-optional policy in common areas of the studio, but teachers set the policy for maks in their lessons. We installed air purifiers in each classroom. Students that are symptomatic should test and reschedule when needed.
