BY ALI LIGHTFIELD ON JUNE 5, 2023

Residents came together to show support for their LGBTQ+ neighbors

Tewksbury celebrated Pride month and supported the LGBTQ+ community on Friday, June 2. The event was held on the Town Common, though because of rain, musical performances and Code 1 BBQ were moved indoors to Town Hall. The event was organized by the Tewksbury Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee.

Despite the storm, the festivities continued with a large crowd of around 200 people.

The event featured tables from the Tewksbury Memorial High School’s Gender Sexuality Alliance, Tewksbury Cares and the TPD Behavioral Health Unit, AgeSpan representing the Tewksbury Senior Center/Council on Aging EMHOT initiative, CTI, the Tewksbury Democratic Town Committee and TDEIAC’s student representative and friends doing free face painting. The TDTC gave away hundreds of Pride flags.

The event opened with speeches by Middlesex DA Marian Ryan, Representatives Vanna Howard and Tram Nguyen, TDTC member Brent Conway and TDEIC member Mason Dunn.

Later, there were performances by Tee and the Gents, Tewksbury Music Association member Jordan Biddescome and TMHS students Sci Stoddard and Darren Castiglione. There were also performances from The Music Room, a Billerica music school owned by Amanda Testa-Oerth. Attendees heard Nora on vocals, Mia on keyboard, Mariel Rodriguez on guitar, Fin Douglass on bass and lead teacher Daniel Hoffman on drums

This marks the first Pride celebration held in Tewksbury, and it was capped off by a lighting of the in rainbow colors.
